109 Cases Solved in 2004

(Jan. 7, 2005) -- Anonymous tips to Central Alabama CrimeStoppers helped solve 109 cases in 2004. CrimeStoppers, a non profit organization, assists local law enforcement agencies in Montgomery, Autauga, and Elmore counties by offering an anonymous tip line and cash rewards to citizens with information that can solve a criminal case. $6,460 was paid to anonymous informants who came forward with details. CrimeStoppers is designed to help law enforcement in its greatest challenge: gathering information from the public. CrimeStoppers works closely with law enforcement agencies and the media to profile unsolved cases in hopes that someone will come forward with information.

Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright Proclaims January CrimeStoppers Month.

Executive Director of Central Alabama CrimeStoppers, Susan Moss, says the most exciting thing about the 2004 statistics is the increase in tips that stopped and/or prevented crimes at school. “We solved 36 cases and paid $3,560 in reward money to students who came forward with information about drugs, weapons, and other criminal activity on school grounds. In 2003, we solved 16 scholastic cases and paid $1,450 in reward money. I think students are realizing that scholastic crimestoppers’ anonymous crime reporting system is a great way for them to take an active role in stopping crime at their school. It is also a safe outlet for them to report criminal activity because we keep their identity a secret.”
